the lowdown: Give Pizza a Chance | Between 4th and 5th on Stark, Portland, OR | 503.333.4434 | Items $2 - $10 | ****

This food cart rocks!

StumptownVegans are Portland’s vegan food cart connoisseurs. If it’s a food cart that serves something vegan, they know about it. This especially comes in handy when I am trying to figure out a quick meal on a work lunch break. With their comprehensive reviews I know exactly what I am getting into before I go.

Admittedly, food carts are sometimes difficult for me. Many of them occupy dilapidated trailers or makeshift shacks whose cleanliness would surprise me if they met code. The row of carts on 5th and Stark is no exception. As I was slowly walking by each one looking for Give Pizza a Chance I cringed but as I rounded the corner, I was pleasantly surprised by the well cared for cart that serves pizza by the slice, whole pies, and calzones! As a vegan your options are limited to freshly baked items as the pizza slices ($2-$3) all contain cheese. Based on the StumptownVegans recommendation I ordered a vegan calzone ($7) which included my choice of any of the following ingredients: spinach, tomatoes, mushrooms, artichoke hearts, olives, and peppers. Although it took 20 minutes (record wait for food cart dining), it was well worth it. The piping hot calzone had the best crust and fillings around. I hadn’t had a calzone in years but I’ve never had one made with such fresh ingredients. If you are going to give any food cart a chance, let it be this one!

hey megan! you know I love seeing people at the vegan friendly carts! I’m glad you liked the calzone so much (despite the wait!) & also glad to see they have a little cup for the sauce.

Oh, that looks good! Sadly it’s too far from my end of downtown for a lunch, but it’s always nice to know about just in case :)

Hey Anne! No kidding follow your heart for something would be great!!!

Hi JD! The wait is definitely worth it! The side cup was actually an accident but it was nice for dipping!

Chelsea! I am with you! There are tons of food carts (Fat Kitty for one) that I really want to have an opportunity to try out!

FYH is my favorite vegan cheese! Granted I haven’t tried Teese or Shreese or Cheezly. What kind of cheese do they use at It’s a Beautiful Pizza?

There is a pizza place in Norfolk that makes vegan pizzas with FYH on it. So delicious. But so greasy! It’s like butter. I eat one maybe two slices, and I feel bloated the entire next day.

  • VeganFabulous said:

I believe Beautiful Pizza uses FYH. I haven’t tried those others either!
I’m not so sure I would like a pizza that makes me feel bloated. do you think it is from the FYH? I made pizza at home using New Season’s corn meal crust and FYH and I don’t feel that way…I wonder what else they are using!

  • Anne said:

I think the bloated feeling comes from extra salt I’m assuming they add to the pizza itself and extra oils and such. It’s definitely NOT a healthy type pizza in the slightest!

    ugh!!!

Ok so I saw a movie last night at the Laurelhurst and there was an advertisement for a new pizza joint called Jesus Crust. I can’t wait to go! The ad didn’t have any details other than “coming soon…”

Do not enough money to buy a building? You not have to worry, just because that is achievable to take the credit loans to work out such kind of problems. Thus take a collateral loan to buy everything you want.
